FIELD DAY 2024 UPDATE !

Hello SEKARC !
Well as many of you know... the timing on Field Day this year is very bad for several of our key FD players as many of us will be out of town or unavailable.. So we will not be having a Field Day site at the museum this year....BUT, Tim N5STR has graciously agreed to host a Field Day that all of those interested may help with, operate with, log with and maybe just hang out with!

It will be held at the Barton County EOC center in LAMAR MO with map below... Setup will begin Sat morning at 10am if you would like to help out! It will be odd but this is the first one missed in 10+ years is pretty good for the SEKARC !?

D-Day June 6 And Radio Comms

Ran across this great article that details the radio communications used on D-Day. Let us all remember and thank those who sacrificed and risked their lives on that day. Below is an excerpt from the article and a photo.

How The ARMY handled D-Day communications

 

"SigC (U.S. Army Signal Corps) had estimated it would need some 90,000 transmitters for the job. This mandated frequency coordination. The radios were largely short-range “hand-helds” but also included short- and medium-distance radio links to naval and air elements and Allied headquarters.

Signal-gear manufacturers were asked to provide rollout proposals for the project and it quickly became apparent that the total number of required radio channels was far larger than the spectrum available (2.5 to 8 mc). SigC’s last-minute solution was to narrow the guard bands between channels to as little as 4 kc. Fortunately, tactical radios had been designed for crystal-controlled FM operation so this predicted project snafu was resolved by last-minute crystal-regrinding on a massive scale."

March Meeting SEKARC

Hello everyone, it's time again to get together. We have lot's to discuss from Band Pass Filters for Field Days to what activity should we plan for April? Fire Station#1 in Pittsburg at 911 W 4th Street March 30th and we will begin at 10am (new time) and of course we will have the breakfast casserole, coffee, donuts etc etc. 

We will email the agenda out the day before so stay tuned. I know it's Easter weekend but hopefully you can all get away for a couple of hours on this Saturday!
