Coffee QSO New Home - Harry's Cafe

A previous owner of Harry's Cafe and previous owner of callsign KAØEGE, Charles Chancey would be proud to know that the SEKARC will be meeting at Harry's for our weekly Coffee QSO. Seems it was time for a change and so.... we did. I informed Harry's that we will be coming there for a while every week on Wednesday mornings and they said we were sure welcome!!

Harry's has a long tradition of local service and being a great place for folks to gather. Great breakfast selections from homemade Cinnamon Rolls, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and more. Please stop by if you have not made it to one of the Coffee QSOs for a while we would be happy to see you!

I think we will enjoy the new location and it is nice to be welcomed. Notice the tag and logo on my parents van from a while back? The tag also has been brought back on my truck!!

Otto's Cafe - New Coffee QSO Location

GREAT NEWS... we have outgrown our current Coffee QSO location for a little over a year! The Root Coffeehouse is a great location with great coffee and very nice people but we simply outgrew the room they had for us. Thanks to Root Coffeehouse for putting up with us!

Otto's Cafe gives MORE room to grow, the room to ourselves AND a FULL breakfast menu as well. A few of us had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and a light bulb lit up and we talked about changing the coffee locale. The more I thought about it the more I liked the idea. Even free coffee refills (unless we hook up coffee IV's to ourselves or go overboard!

It is pretty much right across the street from Root Coffeehouse so it should be easy to find even for those not familiar with downtown Pittsburg. Sure back in the day the original KAØEGE (Charley Chancey aka Harry's Cafe) might have had an issue with going with the competition but I think he would be proud that we are keeping it local.

We look forward to the new digs and hope you stop by and check it out!

Coffee QSO and QSL's

It was a good turnout for the Coffee QSO today and some of us brought a few of our favorite QSL cards to share. Joe WØMQY even brought in his original logbook from 1955. Very interesting to see and hear some of the stories. QSL's are a part of Amateur Radio that has faded some with the new digital options but nothing like getting a card in the mail!

Spellbound Bookstore Coffee QSO

From the time the club started pretty much, we have held our 9am coffee QSO's on Wednesday at Starbucks in Pittsburg. In the mindset of keeping it local, we have decided to try a new spot for the Wednesday coffee. We will try it for a while and see how we like and see if the Spellbound Bookstore and Cafe will allow us!

Joe and a couple of us have "cased the joint" and feel like it would be a good fit! Fresh coffee, seating with tables, wifi access and LOT'S of books.... but we may have to ask for a "Ham Radio Section". We will start this trial on Wednesday the 8th. The owners seemed happy to hear from us so we will see if they feel the same after a couple of Coffee QSO's.

Anyone is welcome, and if you have not been to one of the coffee's this might be a good time to start !!! There is a link to the Facebook page for Spellbound. Plus we can give them some exposure and a little media on our website and Facebook page as well. Thier current menu is posted below... click on photo for a larger version!

Spellbound Bookstore & Cafe
1012 South Broadway
Pittsburg, KS 66762
Open today
7:00 am – 7:00 pm

See you Wednesday, and 73 !!

Ham Nation With Yaesu Rep Chris Wilson NØCSW

Recently Chris Wilson NØCSW from Yaesu stopped by for a visit at the SEKARC Coffee QSO at Starbucks. We had a great informative meeting with him and he explained some of the new items that Yaesu is working on and spoke about Ham Radio in general. He asked us to keep him in the loop on our club activity.

Last month he made a special appearence on the Ham Nation monthly show. He discussed some newer Yaesu products and was featured on the show. Please watch the episode below and you can subscribe to them on YouTube so you can be notified of new posts!

Good job Chris and anytime you are in the SE Kansas area you are always welcome!

SEKARC Coffee QSO - Always Interesting

If you have not made it to one of our coffee qso's at Starbucks, then try to make one soon. There is always something interesting to see and learn. From old radios, keyers, QRP homebrew products to fascinating screenshots of solar activity!

Most of the conversation has a radio topic, but occasionally it wonders to weather, current news and there is even an occasional tailgate swap. Always interesting... be there ! 9am Starbucks Wednesdays.
