Great meeting today !

We have some information and announcements to pass along. We now have club officers.... Congratulations and THANKS go to the new officers !!

We voted on and approved the club constitution and bylaws and will now be working on submitting the paperwork for ARRL club affiliation. Once that is complete we will apply for a club call sign for use on Field Day and future Special Event Stations! We are planning an activity after the April meeting so stay tuned for that !! Make your plans to come out to Big Brutus on Field Day and let us know if you have any questions!

TX Factor Episode Two

Here is the second episode of TX Factor, the new UK Amateur Radio show. This episode has a couple of great segments beginning with the FunCube creator and a demo of the FunCube radio segment. I sent them an email asking permission to post their show and by the way, they loved our club website. There quote was it was "very smart!".

Meeting Saturday !!

The winter that won't go away! But... I understand that the weather this weekend is supposed to be GREAT, so come on out to our meeting Saturday 9 a.m. at Hardee's of Pittsburg! Some topics that I am sure will be covered will be solar panels and battery power, local repeater updates, ARRL Field Day 2014, QRP and building kits and might even discuss the best BBQ in town. ( Does Oklahoma Joe's count as in town? )

Earthrise...

This is a nice video story about the first photographed Earthrise over the moon. Not really ham related but still interesting and educational. I had not heard this story before and hopefully all of you will enjoy it. How fascinating and humbling it must have been for these astronauts and for all that get to journey into space!

I have to pass on this 20 meter PSK31 QSO that I had from a retired man in Florida. N2FBB/4 Bob sounded like a wonderful man with many many stories. The first story was of his first antenna in the apartment in Florida. He took 20 feet of thin wire, froze the end in an ice cube tray, and FLUSHED it down the toilet. Well to be accurate his wife did the flushing while he fed the wire down. The ice cube melted and the antenna was deployed! Now for all I know he just had an active imagination, but something tells me these were not imagined. But surely the statute of limitations has passed on some of these?

Wind Turbine Intro - Power From Nature !

Ham radio operators are always looking for sources of alternative and renewable power for both field operations and in times of emergency when the power grid may or may not be available. As I try to educate myself on these energy sources, I found this fairly local company MISSOURI WIND AND SOLAR that is doing great things in this field!

Both from the retail side and for me their YouTube sight has been extremely helpful as I learn about harnessing our natural resources! The video channel offers a wide array of choices from intro videos on wind and solar power, to ideas for setting up your system at home.
